15A NCAC 18A .2820 STORAGE-Though lock in place on storage cabinets for both classrooms, noted lock not functioning/locking pproperly. Ensure storage lock properly functioning and adequate to the needs to of the facility. Toxic substances, which include corrosive agents, pesticides, bleaches, detergents, cleansers, polishes, any product which is under pressure in an aerosol dispenser, and any substance which may be hazardous to a child if ingested, inhaled, or handled shall be kept in the original container or in another labeled container, used according to the manufacturer`s instructions, and stored in a locked storage room or cabinet when not in use. Locked storage rooms and cabinets shall include those which are unlocked with a combination lock, electronic or magnetic device, keypad, key, or equivalent locking device. 5A NCAC 18A .2806 FOOD STORAGE AND PROTECTION-In classroom 204, noted bulk, opened, rolled-down bags of sugar and dry ingredients stored in the cabinet near the hand washing sink. Once pre-packaged food has been opened, the food shall be stored in clean, resealable bags or containers made of plastic or glass that are tightly covered and manufactured for the purpose of food storage. Food that is stored in child care center classrooms or other rooms intended for child care use, shall be limited to foods that are individually packaged unless the classroom is equipped with a food preparation area that is idenitifed as such.

Found a working spray of disinfectant missing a label. Also, noted label missing from a working spray bottle of unknown chemicals. Person-in charge unable to specify what unknown chemical was during time of inspection. Priority repairs or replacement of this toilet is necessary to provide the pre-k students in this classroom with a properly functioning bathroom fixture.

Priority repairs for safety are required due to the potential of collapse for the whole playground awning. Children should not use the pre-k playground equipment or play beneath or near the awning until repairs have been completed and the awning is determined to be structurally sound and secure.

General Comments
The nonfunctional refrigerators in both classrooms #204 and #206 have been replaced with new larger and more durable refrigerators. Both refrigerators were functioning properly at the time of reinspection with sustained interior ambient air temperatures between 40-42 degrees F. No food was present inside of the refrigerators at the time of reinspection. Provisional status from the prior sanitation inspection has been lifted and the pre-k program has returned to a superior sanitation status listing.

Yogurt single service cup from the cafeteria and in the refrigerator in classroom #206 was 55 degrees F. Cold food for students must be kept at a temperature at or below 45 degrees F. The refrigerator in this classroom had an interior air temp. at 50 degrees F. The refrigerator requires priority repairs or replacement. This refrigerator should not be used for cold storage of student food items until repairs have been completed and the cooler is maintaining proper cold food holding temperatures. Provisional status inspection item. The pre-k has seven days from the date of this inspection to correct the provisional status item. A follow up sanitation re-inspection of the pre- k classrooms will be conducted to verify repairs.

This classroom refrigerator had an internal air temperature of 50 degrees F. The refrigerator requires servicing and repair. No food items for students were in the classroom #204 cooler at the time of inspection. Student food items should not be kept in this refrigerator until repairs have been completed and the cooler is maintaining proper cold food holding temperatures.

Classroom pre-k teachers were off campus for training at the time of inspection. Substitute teachers and teaching assistants were overseeing the classrooms. Did not collect the dates for last class carpet cleaning and prior water sampling for lead since the central staff were out. This information will be verified at the time of the pre-k classrooms reinspection.
